Growth Mindset

The growth mindset is the belief that, with effort and motivation, we can improve our abilities. On the opposite side of the coin is the fixed mindset which is the belief that we are predisposed with certain abilities. For example, someone with a fixed mindset might say, “I’m just not good at math.”

This school year we will incorporate activities and monthly mantras that will guide our students in adopting a growth mindset because, not only has research shown this leads to greater academic achievement, but also achievement in other areas of life. We will provide more information on what we are doing as a school and how you, as parents, can team with us to promote this positive, yet realistic, way of thinking.

Our monthly mantras include:

SEPTEMBER:  EVERYONE  CAN LEARN

OCTOBER: MY BRAIN IS LIKE A MUSCLE THAT GROWS

NOVEMBER: I AM A VALUED MEMBER OF THIS LEARNING COMMUNITY

DECEMBER: WE LOVE A CHALLENGE

JANUARY: FEEDBACK IS A GIFT-ACCEPT IT

FEBRUARY: A GOAL WITHOUT A PLAN IS JUST A WISH

MARCH: MISTAKES ARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING

APRIL: THER’E’S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NOT KNOWING AND NOT KNOWING YET!

MAY: I GOT THIS!

JUNE: I CAN’T TAKE CARE OF OTHERS IF I DON’T TAKE CARE OF MYSELF

JULY: A NEW DAY IS A NEW OPPORTUNITY TO GROW
