Notes from Ms. Kelly…:)

Each year, in January, the National Catholic Education Association sponsors Catholic Schools Week which is a celebration of Catholic education in the United States. As a school community, we work together each year to come up with ways to celebrate different aspects of Catholic education each day of the week. While it is a fun-filled, busy week, the true emphasis is on the blessing of being able to share our faith with our students in an environment that helps them to grow into caring, productive members of our world. That is, quite frankly, very humbling. As a newer member of the St. Laurence family, I see this embraced through the dedication and caring of our staff, parents, volunteers, and parish family. It takes a village.

With that said, please look for the calendar of events beginning on Saturday with the 4:00 Mass. We welcome everyone to share this week with us.

The next Sharing Our Gifts event is tonight and is entitled Pizza and Pinochle. It begins at 5:30 and is being hosted by Gene Salzmann. Please RSVP to 1-847-347-9585 if you are interested.

The next meeting of the Principal/Parent Book Club will be on February 13th at 6:30. We are reading Seven Riddles to Nowhere by A.J. Cattapan. We welcome everyone to join us.

I am very pleased with the response to the parent survey. I have already received about 45%. If you have not had a chance to complete one, there is still time. I will be sharing the results in the coming weeks.

In addition, I will begin to make calls to the future families that you have provided. If you have names, please send them in. We will waive the Trifecta requirement if a family you send to us enrolls for next school year.

Last, but not least, please like our Facebook page if you have not done so already.  If you have time to write a review, that would very helpful as well. Thank you in advance for all of your help! I truly appreciate it!

As always, have a wonderful weekend with your families! Hope to see everyone at Mass tomorrow at 4:00 and at the Italian Dinner/Art Auction! God bless!

Note from Ms. Kelly…:)

While it was a short one, many important things happened this week. Our 7th and 8th graders began research on their Science Fair projects at the Gail Borden library and received many compliments on their behavior from the library staff and patrons. Our preschoolers through 6th graders also went to the library this week to work on various projects.

Report cards will be available on SchoolSpeak this afternoon. I had an opportunity to speak with each student about their progress today and am so proud of each of them!

This week I sent a letter with the new tuition schedule for next year along with a parent survey. Thank you to those who have already returned it! Your feedback and input is important to us, so please consider taking a few moments to fill it out if you have not had the chance to do so yet.

Believe it or not, it is already time to start thinking about next school year. With that in mind, registration information will come home with your child during Catholic Schools Week. Please note that our preschool is moving to full days next year and we are getting quite a few calls from parents who are interested in getting their child enrolled. We offer the 12 available spots to our current families first, but will need to stick to the March 15th pre-registration deadline for so that we can give the new families time to make other arrangements if we do not have availability.

Catholic Schools Week begins on Saturday, January 28th with the 4 o’clock Mass. That night, there is also an Italian Dinner and the Art Auction. All families are invited to attend! More information will be coming to you soon in regards to the events during the week of Catholic Schools Week, but to give you a heads up, this year are participating in an Elgin Deanery Open House on February 4th at St. Edward High School with the other Elgin Catholic schools. On that day, representatives from each grade level who win their classroom Religion Bee, will be invited to compete at St. Edward against the winners from the other schools. You will be notified if your child has won the classroom bee on Tuesday, January 31st.

We have our new flyers in the main office and would love your help in distributing them in the community. The more visible we are, the better. Please consider taking a few to hang up in the area businesses. I would also like to thank those parents who have already submitted names of families who might be interested in St. Laurence. Please keep in mind that we are working with the other area Catholic schools to promote Catholic Education, so I cannot reach out to families whose children go to a different Catholic school.

We have instituted the Stop, Walk and Talk strategy in an effort to ensure that our students have tools to use if they feel as if they are being bullied. I have included information on this at the end of this note. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

As always, have an enjoyable weekend with your family! God bless! J
